Questions to ask when searching for a diesel engine rebuild kit
This is a very important first step in getting accurate pricing and correct parts fitment for your diesel engine. You need to supply us with your engine serial number, ideally. Sometimes the number is not available though, we can use the truck make and vin # as an alternative but there is a chance that the engine in the truck was not the original engine the truck was built with. Give us a call or send us an email with your info we will help you!
We try to keep things simple and have 3 basic options for any engine:
Piston-less Re-Ring Kit– Our most basic kit that can be used if the pistons look good and can be re-used. Includes: Liners, Piston Rings, Main & Rod Bearings, Head Gasket Kit and Oil Pan Gasket
In-frame Kit – If the pistons are worn but there is no major work needed to be performed on the crank or block, this is the kit for you. Includes everything from the re-ring kit plus a set of brand new pistons.
Out-of-Frame Kit – Everything from the In-Frame Kit plus the rest of the gaskets and seals for the whole engine. Typically needed when pulling the engine from whatever it is in and completely disassembling including removal of crankshaft from the cylinder block.
This is a big question to answer when deciding on rebuilding a diesel engine. OEM parts are great but sometimes very expensive and do not always have the best warranty coverage. We offer all of the premium American aftermarket brands for diesel engine components like: IPD, Interstate Mcbee, PAI Industries, Mahle Clevite, FP Diesel , AFA Industries, CTP, KMP Diesel & many others. Wether you need OEM or Aftermarket parts, we got-em and we stand behind the parts we sell 100%.
Typically you want to go with new parts wherever possible, one of the main reasons we like our after market cylinder kit offerings so much. The aftermarket kits we sell are always bundled with all new parts that are engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications. Some times is does make sense to use reman or used components to save $ while not compromising engine integrity. For example if major crankshaft / cylinder block damage is evident, it may be a good idea to find a good used or reman block and crank as an alternative to buying a complete new engine or even a complete used engine.
